Who is there

Described by people as outgoing and energetic, Malka first came to Oorah as a staff member in their summer camp, TheZone. She was quickly hooked, and couldn’t have been more thrilled to join the Oorah team as a TorahMates coordinator. With a real passion for helping people, her goal is to reach as many individuals as possible and help them enjoy their partnership to the fullest. When not at work, she can be found baking with her kids.

Passionate about helping others learn and discover the beauty of Torah, Rabbi Landman became a TorahMates coordinator because he loves connecting with and getting to know others. A charismatic yet intellectual individual, he’s known as a history buff and loves to travel and explore the world. When he’s not working, he can be found learning or spending time with his family.

Rabbi Leichtag always had a passion for outreach. He first got involved through organizing a program connecting Chasidic Jews from Williamsburg with Bukharian Jews in Queens. As he puts it, “What can be nicer than two Jews from different backgrounds learning together?” Honored to foster these connections, Rabbi Leichtag brings a deep sense of purpose and enthusiasm to his job, where his easy-going nature nurtures warm, lasting relationships, helping Jews of all backgrounds grow through Torah learning.

A Los Angeles native, Nancy moved to the East Coast to be closer to her kids and grandkids. An outdoor enthusiasts who loves hiking and kayaking, Nancy is creative and artistic and passionate about helping women find their calling through Torah learning. As a teacher for 30 years with lots of experience in the field, she’s excited to facilitate Torah study through her position as a TorahMates coordinator.

Mrs. Faigy Lieberh3> Meet our Administrative Assistant! Faigy joined TorahMates to be part of something meaningful and help make a difference. Her ultimate career goal is to help people connect more deeply with Yiddishkeit and be there for them on their journeys of growth.

Born in Detroit and raised in Toronto, Rabbi Markovic became a coordinator because he was looking for a job where he could connect with others on a personal level. His grandest goal in his career is to find every Jew a TorahMate. In his free time, you can find him drinking coffee, listening to music or a Torah lecture, and spending time with his family. Rabbi Markovic does not currently have any pets, but he did once have a pet betta fish named Aleph.

Mrs. Pearl Mochon grew up in Deal’s Syrian community, where a gradual journey of growth continues to inspire her. That personal path fuels her passion for helping others become self-made, strong, and well-rounded in their Judaism. A true peoples-person, she thoughtfully guides TorahMates toward a more meaningful life. Off the clock she can be found caring for her family, scrapbooking and needlepointing, with an occasional roller-coaster ride.

New to Torah? If you have any questions about Jewish learning or need help getting started, one of our TorahMates coordinators will be happy to contact you at your convenience. Torah for beginners is our specialty!

Hear from our TorahMates... ...who've signed up to Learn about Judaism Whether you feel like you belong in a Judaism for Beginners class or you feel like you just want to expand your knowledge a bit, TorahMates has a partner that can fit your specific needs and interests.

I look forward to my TorahMates session with Pacy every week. He's a wealth of knowledge, and both his enthusiasm for Torah and spirit of chesed are infectious. It's amazing what you can do just one step at a time.

Learning with Asher has not only brought a continued and amazing learning experience (I can finally say I'm learning the mishna!) but it has been a fruitful and enlightening friendship...for life!

Growing up in a family from the Soviet Union, I was always aware of my Jewish identity but lacked a deeper understanding of Judaism. My bond with Judaism and mitzvot has deepened now in a meaningful way, and I’m truly grateful for this organization and the impact it has had on my life.

We learn so much from each other and I love expanding my understanding of Tehillim from the book we have been using. I highly recommend Oorah and TorahMates; it is a beautiful and highly meaningful program to me!

She's unbelievable. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to learn with her. If I could reach out and hug her through the phone, I would give her the biggest hug 🤗

Learning with my TorahMate gives me inner fulfillment. We get to connect with the giants of previous generations and develop an appreciation for who we are as a nation. I'm happy to be Jewish.
